How To Properly Wash Your Hair

No matter where I go, I constantly get asked about my hair – when I thought about it, I realized I did a lot of things to ensure that I was taking care of my hair. Washing your hair seems quite simple, however, one small step can drastically change the texture and health of your hair. For those of you out there with dry, coarse hair, you are probably looking for ways to make your hair more moisturized and soft to the touch. You want to do whatever you can to lock in the moisture in your hair – especially during the summer and winter seasons. This starts with how you wash your hair.

Let’s get right into some of the tips you should keep in mind when washing your hair – so you can acheive natural healthy hair in the comfort of your own home!

  1. Use a clarifying shampoo – this will be a little less harsh on your hair and lock in moisture that your hair needs.
  2. Wash Your Hair Twice – this is super important. You want to first rinse your hair out with luke warm water – the hotter the water the worse it is for the texture of your hair. Your hair will suck the moisture out rather than keep it in. You want to massage the shampoo in your scalp and be sure to work from the scalp to the ends. You want to repeat this twice to ensure all the excess oils are removed.
  3. Rinse & Condition – rinse out the second wash and apply conditioner. It is important to keep in mind that the conditioner does not need to be applied directly to the scalp. You want to start applying in the middle part of your hair, working your way to the roots and the scalp. You want to let the conditioner sit for at least one minute to allow for the conditioner to do its job and provide moisture to your hair.
  4. Rinse out conditioner with cold water – this is SUPER important, and probably the step that most of us forget! You want to rinse out the conditioner with cold water (as cold as you can go). Warm water typically strips your hair of it’s moisture causing your hair to become more coarse and prone and breakage. Cold water, acts as a catalyst for moisturized hair and locks in moisture in your roots and ends. You can feel immediate results, especially when your hair dries. Your hair will feel instantly softer and your scalp will feel a lot more hydrated between washes.

I wash my hair constantly, and it is so important to do things to take care of your hair so you can have healthy beautiful hair. You just have to follow these simple steps that you can easily add into your routine that will put you on your way to naturally beautiful hair!

Nighttime Hair Care – Is That Really A Thing?

If you are anything like myself – hair care is an important part of my daily routine. No matter where I go, I constantly get stopped and asked about my hair. I wanted to share some healthy hair tips that I follow while I dream away… super easy, right? Most of these tips are easy and is sure to not add any additional time to your normal bedtime routine.

Alright, are you ready to get simple tips and tricks for beautiful hair that are easy to do while you snooze? Let’s dive right in:

  1. Tie Up Your Hair When You Sleep – I usually tie my hair up in a loose bun. This definitely helps those who have stubborn flyaways and frizzy hair. It keeps your hair contained and for those into skincare, it will help keep the hair off your face. What is really important to keep in mind is not to tie your hair too tight, this can cause breakage and definitely contradict the whole point of getting beautiful hair!
  2. Brush Your Hair (Morning/Night) – I know you may be thinking, really?? But yes, this is very important. Brushing your hair is crucial to your haircare routine, because your scalp naturally produces oils that must be brushed out and be evenly distributed from the roots to the tips of your hair. These natural oils help to provide nutrients that promote beautiful, healthy hair.
  3. Change Your Pillowcases Often – I change my pillowcases every second day since I will sleep on one side and flip it over the next. I know your next question is, well what does a pillowcase have to do with beautiful hair? Cotton pillowcases typically absorb the moisture out of your hair causing more breakage and frizz. And all the oils from your face can cause your hair to become more oily and also affect your skin.
  4. Use a Satin or Silk Pillowcase – This is actually the best option for your hair. Satin or silk pillowcases let your hair retain its moisture and help those frizz and flyaways stay tame. This is also super beneficial to those of you out there with curly hair. When you toss and turn at night, these pillowcases ensure a smooth glide so your hair does not suffer any breakage while you snooze! Another added bonus is that this pillowcase is good for your skin!
