Prevent Hair Fall

learn how to prevent hair fall

I personally go through periods where I tend to lose more hair than usual. It is typical to lose anywhere between 50-100 strands daily – however, sometimes I notice and can feel my hair thinning out. I constantly get asked what to do to prevent hair fall and there are some simple hair care tips I wanted to share with you. In this post, I will talk about some methods that you can try in the comfort of your own home for beautiful hair.

In my previous posts about Amla Oil and Coconut Oil, I discuss the benefits of each of these oils and how it can improve not only the health of your scalp, but how it can prevent hair fall and premature graying. I wanted to share two more tips that you should try out if you are still suffering from hair fall.

Curry Leaves (Limri) – believe it or not, curry leaves have many benefits for your hair, with natural Vitamin C, iron, calcium and many more. Curry leaves are traditionally used in South Asian cooking, but can also be used topically to prevent hair fall, AND premature graying (YAY!). Curry leaves has natural properties to improve blood supply to hair follicles for controlled hair loss and can strenghten your roots. It also provides a natural, beautiful hue to your hair due to its natural melanin pigment levels which give it a naturally healthy color (without harmful chemicals and heat treatments).

The best way to use this is to boil a couple curry leaves with some coconut oil on low heat so the natural oils and properties of the leaves come out and then massage this into your scalp and leave on for at least one hour. Be to sure to wash your hair to ensure all the excess oils are removed, and style your hair as preferred.

Castor Oil – this oil is rich in Vitamin E and proteins, as well as anti-microbial properties which is essential for your hair, especially for those with certain scalp issues such as dandruff. This oil balances out moisture in your hair, and softens hair which leaves your hair and scalp feeling moisturized, even in the hottest climate. Not only does it protect your scalp, but due to it’s high content of protein – it promotes faster hair growth.

For those of you looking to grow out your hair, this oil may be your answer! To use this oil – you want to massage a pea sized amount into your scalp and the ends of your hair. You can either leave the oil in overnight (I would recommend wearing a lightweight shower cap, or for an hour) and wash out using a mild soap. NOTE:  The only downside of this oil is that it may be a little harder to wash out – so be sure to not use too much and wash twice with your mild shampoo.

I know how terrifying hairfall can be, especially when it seems like your hair is thinning out and losing volume. These simple steps that you can incorporate in your hair care routine will be sure to put you on your way to  beautiful hair. Keep in mind that you will have to try out different things to see what works best for you and your hair – what I do may not work for you, which is why I try to share multiple different options with you all.

How To Properly Wash Your Hair

No matter where I go, I constantly get asked about my hair – when I thought about it, I realized I did a lot of things to ensure that I was taking care of my hair. Washing your hair seems quite simple, however, one small step can drastically change the texture and health of your hair. For those of you out there with dry, coarse hair, you are probably looking for ways to make your hair more moisturized and soft to the touch. You want to do whatever you can to lock in the moisture in your hair – especially during the summer and winter seasons. This starts with how you wash your hair.

Let’s get right into some of the tips you should keep in mind when washing your hair – so you can acheive natural healthy hair in the comfort of your own home!

  1. Use a clarifying shampoo – this will be a little less harsh on your hair and lock in moisture that your hair needs.
  2. Wash Your Hair Twice – this is super important. You want to first rinse your hair out with luke warm water – the hotter the water the worse it is for the texture of your hair. Your hair will suck the moisture out rather than keep it in. You want to massage the shampoo in your scalp and be sure to work from the scalp to the ends. You want to repeat this twice to ensure all the excess oils are removed.
  3. Rinse & Condition – rinse out the second wash and apply conditioner. It is important to keep in mind that the conditioner does not need to be applied directly to the scalp. You want to start applying in the middle part of your hair, working your way to the roots and the scalp. You want to let the conditioner sit for at least one minute to allow for the conditioner to do its job and provide moisture to your hair.
  4. Rinse out conditioner with cold water – this is SUPER important, and probably the step that most of us forget! You want to rinse out the conditioner with cold water (as cold as you can go). Warm water typically strips your hair of it’s moisture causing your hair to become more coarse and prone and breakage. Cold water, acts as a catalyst for moisturized hair and locks in moisture in your roots and ends. You can feel immediate results, especially when your hair dries. Your hair will feel instantly softer and your scalp will feel a lot more hydrated between washes.

I wash my hair constantly, and it is so important to do things to take care of your hair so you can have healthy beautiful hair. You just have to follow these simple steps that you can easily add into your routine that will put you on your way to naturally beautiful hair!

Happy Washing! xx

hair wash tips

How Often Should You Wash Your Hair?

Some of you out there wash your hair every day, and some of you don’t. I wanted to share some of my thoughts about washing your hair on a daily basis. In order to maintain and upkeep beautiful healthy hair, we must take steps that ensure our hair stays healthy. Now, I know many of you may have active lifestyles, so it’s understandable to want to wash your hair after a workout. However, washing your on a daily basis may not be the best option for your hair type. Let’s dig a little deeper into this.

Our hair contains natural oils that keep our hair healthy and our scalp moisturized. Washing your hair every day can strip those natural oils in your scalp leaving it dry, scaly, and itchy. For those of you with extremely thin hair, or you work out every day and sweat a lot, or live in a very humid climate, it may be beneficial to wash your hair every day – but use a gentle sulfate free shampoo and conditioner. Shampoos typically trap the oil, dirt, and residue to clean your scalp. For those of you with drier hair, thicker hair, or curly hair can definitely get away with not washing your hair as often – ideally, you want to wash every 2 -3 days or as you see fit. You have to observe the signs that will determine when you should wash your hair. For example, if your scalp is feeling dry, itchy, or you notice flaking or a smell, it is probably time you give our head a nice massage and wash. To dry your hair, you can definitely air dry until fully dry or part of the way. For those of you with thicker, frizzier hair, you can towel dry for as long as you can, and then use a blow dryer to expedite the drying process and style your hair as you wish.

It is important to keep in mind that every individual has a different hair type, so what works for some people may not work for others. Remember, for those of you looking to achieve natural beautiful hair those natural oils are needed to help maintain a healthy scalp and healthy hair. Maintaining healthy hair can definitely take some time and effort, but taking the right steps will definitely get you on your way to naturally beautiful hair!

Nighttime hair care tips for healthy hair

Nighttime Hair Care – Is That Really A Thing?

If you are anything like myself – hair care is an important part of my daily routine. No matter where I go, I constantly get stopped and asked about my hair. I wanted to share some healthy hair tips that I follow while I dream away… super easy, right? Most of these tips are easy and is sure to not add any additional time to your normal bedtime routine.

Alright, are you ready to get simple tips and tricks for beautiful hair that are easy to do while you snooze? Let’s dive right in:

  1. Tie Up Your Hair When You Sleep – I usually tie my hair up in a loose bun. This definitely helps those who have stubborn flyaways and frizzy hair. It keeps your hair contained and for those into skincare, it will help keep the hair off your face. What is really important to keep in mind is not to tie your hair too tight, this can cause breakage and definitely contradict the whole point of getting beautiful hair!
  2. Brush Your Hair (Morning/Night) – I know you may be thinking, really?? But yes, this is very important. Brushing your hair is crucial to your haircare routine, because your scalp naturally produces oils that must be brushed out and be evenly distributed from the roots to the tips of your hair. These natural oils help to provide nutrients that promote beautiful, healthy hair.
  3. Change Your Pillowcases Often – I change my pillowcases every second day since I will sleep on one side and flip it over the next. I know your next question is, well what does a pillowcase have to do with beautiful hair? Cotton pillowcases typically absorb the moisture out of your hair causing more breakage and frizz. And all the oils from your face can cause your hair to become more oily and also affect your skin.
  4. Use a Satin or Silk Pillowcase – This is actually the best option for your hair. Satin or silk pillowcases let your hair retain its moisture and help those frizz and flyaways stay tame. This is also super beneficial to those of you out there with curly hair. When you toss and turn at night, these pillowcases ensure a smooth glide so your hair does not suffer any breakage while you snooze! Another added bonus is that this pillowcase is good for your skin!

Easy right? It does not take much effort to follow these healthy hair tips, especially while you sleep! Adding these simple steps to your daily (and nightly) routine are sure to get you on your way to beautiful hair!

Strong, Beautiful Hair with Amla Oil

Having beautiful hair is so important – not only for women, but for men as well. Here at Healthy Hair Tips HQ, you will find amazing resources for hair care tips. Today, I wanted to share one of my most favorite and all natural hair care tips for beautiful and long hair. As we are all aware, oils have been used for centuries, especially in Southeast Asia. One oil in particular can help your hair grow longer, stronger, and healthier… (drumroll please) AMLA (aka Gooseberry) Oil.

Amla Oil is a herbal oil using predominantly in Southeast Asia as a natural hair care product that promotes healthier hair, hair growth, as well as treats dandruff and other scalp related issues. Let me share some more of Amla (Gooseberry) oil’s benefits:

  • Prevents Hair Fall – It is natural to lose hair everyday, however, when we are overcome with lots of stress or drastic weather changes our body responds in many different ways. One way can be excess hair fall. As dreadful as it sounds, it can happen to anyone. The use of Amla Oil can help to treat this excess hair fall by providing nourishment and nutrients to your scalp – whether we think of it or not, our scalps need some TLC too!
  • Promotes Thicker Hair – Wherever I go, I constantly get asked about my natural thick hair. For years, I have been religiously using Amla in my hair care routine. Because it is herbal it has natural thickening agents and also contains natural Vitamin C.
  • Prevents Premature Graying/Breakage – No one wants to see those grays. Amla Oil contains Vitamin C along with other natural antioxidants that prevent the hair from becoming weak and losing it’s natural color. If you use any color/heat treatments on your hair, it will replenish the natural nutrients and lock in moisture instead of drying or breaking easy.

The secret to having beautiful hair just requires you to have a little routine at least once a week. The best way to use this is to heat the oil a little bit and massage into your scalp. Be sure to not only massage your scalp but also the ends of the hair. Tie up your hair in a bun and use a designated (Amla Oil) shower cap to allow the oil to sink in and do it’s magic!

Disclaimer: the scent is very strong, some people are not able to manage it, so plan on doing this routine when you will wash your hair shortly after. If you really are not able to stand the smell, add a couple drops of lavender oil to the routine. There is also a Amla Lite version which includes more of a lemon scent. In my personal experience, the normal oil works best.

After about 30min to an hour you can go ahead and wash your hair using your favorite shampoo and conditioner. You will notice that your hair is a lot softer and shiner – even after just one use! Repeat this at least once a week and you are on your way to beautiful and healthy hair!
